Cape teal
Appearance
The palest duck of the region. At close range, the combination of a speckled head and pink bill is diagnostic. Can be distinguished from Red-billed Teal by the uniformly coloured head and lack of a dark cap. In flight it shows a dark greenish speculum surrounded by white. Usually occurs in mixed flocks.
Juvenile is paler grey than adult.
Habitat
Any open area of fresh or saline water.
Call
A thin whistle, usually given in flight.
