Buzzards Information page
Description
Buzzards are raptors that resemble small eagles. They use keen eyesight to hunt small mammals, birds and reptiles. They have very broad, rounded wings and short, wide tails. Adults have dark eyes, whereas immatures have pale eyes. Their lower legs are unfeathered.
Their preferred technique is to still-hunt from a perch but a number of species may also hover before dropping onto prey if there is sufficient headwind. Some species may run after their prey on the ground. they regurgitate pellets of indigestible prey parts.
They are monogamous and territorial. Pair-bonds are probably protracted or permanent. Incubation is done by the female alone or by both sexes.
