Goshawks and sparrowhawks Information page
Description
Small to medium-sized, predominantly grey, long-tailed hawks with barred or streaked underparts and long unfeathered legs. Their wings are fairly short and rounded, being adapted for fast flight while pursuing avian prey, often in deze vegetation where the longish tail enables manouverability. The female is larger than the male.
They have a diverse diet and may also scavenge. Some species associate with animals that flush prey. Sparrowhaws specialise in catching birds in flight, while goshawk takes a fair number of ground living prey as well.
