Longclaws Information page

Description
Colourful terrestrial passerines of the grassland, light savanna and wetland edges.Similar to pipits, but larger, brighter coloured with shorter tails and more scalloped upperparts. The long hindclaws (up to 2 cm) possibly assist in walking through grass.
Most longclaws are ground-feeding insectivores of slightly open country. They take a wide range of invertebrate prey, especially insects, but also including spiders, worms, and small aquatic molluscs and arthropods.
The are monogamous and the nest is a bulky cup of dry grass, lined with finer grass and rootlets. Thye lay clutches of 3 - 4 whitish eggs, covered with fairy heavy speckling and splotching. Incubation and care of young is done by both sexes.
