Orioles Information page

Description
Robust, largely solitary, canopy-dwelling passerines with far-carrying, fluting whistles. They are characterised by bright yellow and black pluamge. The long, pointed wings, relatively high wing-loading and flurries of wingbeats result in rapid, heavy, undulating flight. When bathing, they may plunge-dive.
They are omnivorous, using the slightly hooked bill for eating fruits and invertebrates. Their preferred habitats are mature woodland and forest, where they hawk and glean from leaves and twigs in the canopy. They are usually solitary, except at fruiting trees.
They are monogamous, the nest is a deep, suspended cup, built of green Usneap lichen, grass, bark fragments and other vegetable matter. A clutch consists of 2 - 3 pinkish or white eggs with sparse but bold speckling. Incubation and care of chicks is shared by both adults.
