Rock-thrushes Information page
Description
Robust, predoninantly organge thrushes, mostly found in rocky areas. There is sexual colour dimorphism with the males characteristically having grey heads with rusty-orange belies and tails.
They are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of invertebrates, small vertebrates, fruit, seeds and nectar, which they primarily obtain on the ground (with big hops), but they will also feed in low vegetation and trees. They will also opportunistically visit fire fronts, where they catch toasted or fleeing prey.
They are monogamous and territorial. The nest is an untidy cup, placed in a crevace rock ledge or tree hole. They lay 3 plain blue eggs. Incubation is done by the female alone, but both sexes feed the young.
