Turacos Information page
Description
Arboreal, social, noisy, frugivorous birds endemic to Africa with grey, green or purple plumage. All have crests and bare skin around the eyes.. They can move nimbly with bounding runs and jumps in tree canopies, but their flight is weak and laboured. They have strong bills for eating plant parts, especially fruits.
The grey go-away bird prefers drier woodland habitats, while the other species are more at home in the forest.
They are monogamous and build nests from twings and sticks in the shape of a saucer. They usually lay 2 - 3 eggs and incubation and care of the young is done by both sexes.
