Upperpart coloration varies regionally, but the white underparts and slightly streaked breast are diagnostic.
Juvenile is more mottled than adult.
Habitat
Kalahari scrub, broad-leaved savanna and thornveld; on sandy soils. The southwestern edge of its range overlaps with the range of Red Lark.
Call
A jumble of harsh 'chips' and twitterings, ending in a buzzy slur, given from treetops or during the short aereal flight.
