This large cuckoo is unmistakable, with its white-spotted dark back, elongated, wedge-shaped tail and grey chest.
Juvenile is also heavily spotted on the back but has a small, black crest, buffy underparts and rufous patches on the primaries.

A loud, far-crying 'keeow-keeow-keeow', and a shorter, crow-like 'kark'.
