Spotted thick-knee (Dikkop)

Appearance
Larger and darker than Water Thick-knee, with obviously spotted upperparts. It lacks a wing bar or panel but has two small, white patches on each upperwing, visible in flight. It is predominantly nocturnal.
Juvenile like adult.
Habitat
Grassland and savanna.
Call
A rising then falling 'whiw-whiw-whiw', especially at night.
