Violet-backed (plumcoloured) starling

Appearance
Male's upperparts and throat are unusual, glossy amethyst colour; this colour may vary with wear from blueish to coppery.
Female and juvenile birds are very different in appearance, with brown, thrush-like plumage. Juvenile resembles female with dark eyes.
Habitat
Most woodland, but avoids thick, evergreen forests.
Call
A soft but sharp 'tip, tip'; song a short series of buzzy whistles.
